BOSTON TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 47-year-old Hudsonville man died in a three-vehicle pileup near Saranac on Wednesday morning.
According to Michgian State Police troopers, a semi truck hauling grain was westbound M-21 near Hawley Highway around 10:30 AM when it swerved across the center line to avoid a pickup truck that pulled into its path. It then slammed head-on into an eastbound commercial truck, causing one of the semi’s tandem trailers to overturn.
The commercial truck’s driver, Anthony Nunez, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ionia County Medical Examiner’s Office, while the semi truck driver, 34-year-old Trevor Vanderwall of Hemlock, was not hurt. The pickup driver that apparently sparked the crash, 40-year-old Lisa Thrush of Saranac, along with a passenger, her 18-year-old son Hunter Thrush-Davis, were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash closed M-21 for several hours and knocked out power to several hundred Consumers Energy customers in the vicinity due to a downed utility pole.
