HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A vacancy created amidst some controversy a year ago has been filled at Hope College.
The Holland-based school announced on Monday the appointment of Dr. Cady Short-Thompson as Provost. Chosen after a nationwide search, she will assume her new duties, which includes being a professor of communication at the college, on August 1st. Dr. Short-Thompson heads north after seven years as the dean at the University of Cincinnati-Blue Ash College, and has past experience at Northern Kentucky University as a communication professor and chair of that school’s Department of Communication.
The provost’s post at Hope College has been filled this academic year on an interim basis by Dr. Karen Nordell Pearson. Last April, Dr. Richard Ray resigned as provost at the request of school President Dr. John Knapp and began what was described as a “much-deserved yearlong leave of absence,” according to a campus email by Dr. Knapp announcing the move. There was a gathering on campus shortly after the announcement in support of Dr. Knapp, as there were reported leaked emails at the time that he could have been sacked as a result of Dr. Ray’s departure. Such a move did not come about, and Hope Board of Trustees Chairwoman Mary Bauman stepped down.
