JAMESTOWN TWP, MI (WHTC) – A 37-year-old Byron Center man is dead after a head-on crash in Jamestown Township on Wednesday, September 21.
Ottawa County Sheriff Sgt. Steve Austin says 21-year-old-Matthew Lubbers of Grandville was driving a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado and may have fallen asleep at the wheel around 8 a.m. when he was eastbound on Byron Road near 48th Avenue and crossed the center line into the westbound lane.
Lubbers then struck Jason Alexander who was driving a 2003 Chrysler minivan head on in the crash. Alexander was wearing a seatbelt pronounced dead at the scene.
Lubbers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
