HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The matter of establishing no-wake zones for the narrows of Lake Macatawa will be taken up by the state on Thursday.
A 7 PM hearing in the second-floor Training Center of Holland City Hall has been called by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to “gather information from the public concerning watercraft controls,” according to a formal Public Notice of Public Hearing posted on the City of Holland’s official website. There are many living along the shoreline in Holland and Park Township who want to have the entire narrows declared a no-wake zone due to what they claim are large waves created by the combination of speeding boats and higher-than-average water levels. Park Township had initially petitioned the DNR for the no-wake zones last year, and the agency held a hearing at the Park Township Hall this past May on the matter.
Those who cannot attend this hearing can mail written statements by October 21st to the DNR (DNR, Law Enforcement; Attn: Sgt. Al Bavarskas; 525 W. Allegan St.; Lansing, MI 48909). A decision from Lansing on this request is expected this winter.
