HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The summer vacation season along the Lakeshore came to an end on Monday with the sound of air horns filling the air.
The start of the 11th annual Labor Day Truck Parade was delayed, but the wait was apparently worth it to the thousands who lined the route in the downtown districts of both Zeeland and Holland. A record 73 vehicles participated in the event that organizers say celebrates the commercial entities that call this area home and those who work at those companies. An ice cream social outside of the Holland Civic Center was held at the conclusion of the parade, with the vehicles who participated parked in the lots so that those who attended would have a chance to get a close-up look at them.
Also on Monday, there was a walk along the Kollen Park boardwalk that lines the southern shore of Lake Macatawa, ending with a pancake breakfast at Windmill Island Gardens, as well as a 35-yard stroll over the Paw Paw Bridge in Zeeland as a humorous tribute to the longer, more well-known Mackinac Bridge Walk. A similar type of bridge stroll was held at the Blue Star Highway Bridge that connects Saugatuck and Douglas.
