HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – While an official search has ended for the body of a 17-year-old Holland man missing and presumed drowned in Lake Michigan, family and friends continue to seek closure and for help in funeral costs.
A six-hour car wash was held on Sunday afternoon at Maple Avenue Ministries to raise money for the families of Christopher Mimis and 14-year-old Vincent Green, two of four teens who were swept off of the north pier at Holland State Park late last Wednesday afternoon. Two of them were able to get to shore safely while rescuers found the body of Green on Thursday before calling off the search for Mimis on Saturday after three days of an extensive search.
A Sunday evening vigil was slated at Holland State Park for Mimis and Green. The Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department says that, while the official search for Mimis has been suspended, Marine Unit deputies will still keep their eyes open for any sign of the teen’s body near the rocks off of the north pier.
