BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC) – A 14-year-old Jenison girl is expected to recover from injuries suffered in a two-vehicle crash last evening at a Blendon Township intersection.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, 39-year-old Janet Martinez of Jenison was driving her car southbound on 56th Avenue around 8 PM and stopped for the stop sign at Bauer Road. She then attempted to turn left onto Bauer Road and went straight into the path of a westbound SUV, driven by Donald Van Eck, who couldn’t avoid a collision.
Martinez was buckled up and unhurt, but her 14-year-old daughter Rebecca was not wearing a seat belt and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The teen was taken to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in stable condition. Van Eck, a 59-year-old Hudsonville man, along with his 57-year-old wife Lynette, were buckled up and not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
