POLKTON TWP, MI (WHTC) – A family of three were injured when their vehicle collided with a semi-truck around 2:59 p.m.Tuesday afternoon, November 29.
Authorities say that Meridith Slater, 43, of Ravenna was northbound on 68th Avenue near Arthur Street when her PT cruiser drifted across the lanes of traffic and struck a semi-truck that was southbound driven by Gary Edema, 52, of Hopkins.
Slater could not recall what led to her to drift across the lanes. Slater who was wearing her seatbelt, along with her two daughters Audrey, 6, and Anna, 2, of Ravenna who were rear-seat passengers, were transported to hospitals in Grand Rapids. The children are listed in stable condition at Helen Devos Children Hospital. Slater is also listed in stable condition at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital.
Sgt. Brian Buter from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office says Edema was able to slow his semi prior to the crash and greatly lessened the impact. Edema was not injured in the crash which remains under investigation.
