HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland’s Memorial Day Parade will have some obstacles with area construction so for the second year in a row, there are changes to the parade and route.
The parade will start at 9:30 a.m. on Monday May 30, and will begin at the intersection of 8th Street and Central and proceed east on 8th Street to Lincoln Avenue (see map). The parade ends at Pilgrim Home Cemetery for a Memorial service.
Local high school marching bands from Holland, Holland Christian and West Ottawa Public Schools, antique vehicles and veterans from World War II through present day will be in the parade. With the recent 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, the parade committee is honoring all those killed in action and missing in Vietnam as the Honorary Grand Marshals. The Vietnams Veterans float will be moved up in the parade lineup to signify this special honor.
Owners of classic convertibles, jeeps and military vehicles are invited to participate, but no advertising of any kind of vehicles is allowed.
A Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. will follow the parade at the Civil War Monument in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. At sunrise the “Avenue of Flags” at the cemetery will be on display and include more than 430 casket flags to represent a deceased military veteran. Complete coverage on 1450 WHTC.
