HOLLAND (WHTC) — Hope College’s board of trustees is set to meet this week.
Leadership at the college appears divided since Hope President John Knapp announced on April 11 that the school’s chief academic officer, Provost Richard Ray, would be stepping down.
Trustees held an emergency board meeting, sparking speculation Knapp would be fired.
The public outcry on and off campus included silent student demonstrations, a faculty petition, a pro-Knapp website and a deluge of social media messages praising Knapp.
That, in turn, led to a campus-wide message from the board of trustees’ president, Mary V. Bauman, reassuring students, faculty and staff that Knapp’s job wouldn’t be on today’s agenda.
Bauman, in her second four-year term as the board’s president, announced last week she’d be stepping down.
Hope’s commencement for the Class of 2016 is Sunday.
