GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – A new Development Center is being launched by Hope Network which will offer employment solutions for people and families with disabilities in Ottawa County.
The program will be based in the former Life Services building, located at 11172 Adams Street in Holland. Starting in July the Development Center will begin job training for individuals with developmental disabilities and move them out in to gainful employment into the community.
Some of these individuals were previously served by Kandu Industries, which closed it’s doors last fall. The Development Center will provide valuable skill training to people with disabilities, while being integrated into the private workforce with employers throughout the community. They will be able to work alongside people who do not have disabilities, yet perform functions unique and specific to their skill set.
“People living with disabilities want – and deserve – the opportunity to work, to participate in our communities, and to enjoy the sense of pride that comes from earning a paycheck” said Joe Haveman, Director of Government Relations for Hope Network. “With this program, we can once again provide them with that opportunity and more.”
Hope Network is working in cooperation with Ottawa County Community Mental Health to implement work and community life skills with ongoing training throughout the county.
