HOLLAND (WHTC) — For the last time in her 30-year career working for the city of Holland, Assistant Director of Community & Neighborhood Services Cindy Osman will talk with city council, at a study session set for March 30, Holland Museum, 31 West 10th St.
Osman’s last day with the city is Thursday. She started working in 1985 doing code enforcement on a part-time basis, and worked her way up the ladder. She helped create the city’s rental inspection program and shepherded the city’s permit system from paper to digital files.
She also established the city’s weekly residential trash pickup system, started the point-of-sale smoke detector program and created a program to deal with vacant and abandoned homes during the foreclosure crisis.
Outside of work, she became fluent in Spanish as she and her husband Craig raised their son Matt. When Matt went to law school, she did, too. Cindy Osman has since passed her bar exam. Far from settling into retirement, Osman will start a post-career job Friday with Saugatuck-Douglas doing similar work.
The City of Holland will host a farewell reception for Osman from 3 to 5 p-m Thursday in City Hall’s Council chambers. Dessert and punch will be served.
