HOLLAND (WHTC) — Jonathan Edward Wilson, 27, of Saginaw, was arrested by Holland police after leading officers on a car chase that ended near 96th Avenue and Adams Street, south of Zeeland, according to a statement emailed to media by Holland Department of Public Safety.
He was arraigned Wednesday afternoon on multiple charges including receiving stolen property, third-degree flee and elude; resisting and obstructing police; and operating while intoxicated. Wilson remains in the Ottawa County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond as well as multiple unrelated warrants.
Police spotted Wilson driving a 2008 Chevy Tahoe at around 6:47 p.m. Tuesday evening near Lincoln Avenue and Ninth Street.
The officer confirmed the vehicle as one stolen out of the Grand Haven area but while attempting a traffic stop near Lincoln and 29th Street, the suspect sped away on Lincoln.
The pursuit continued south into Allegan County on 56th Street, west on 136th, north on 63rd Street, east on 138th, north on 48th Street (which becomes 96th Street in Ottawa County). At Adams Street and 96th, assisting officers set up a spike strip system and in an attempt to avoid the spikes, the suspect drove off the road getting stuck in a ditch. The suspect then fled on foot about 100 yards and after being ordered to stop, the suspect was tased and taken into custody by officers.
Wilson was the only occupant of the vehicle.
Police said he fled at speeds in excess of 100 mph and disregarded multiple stop signs during the pursuit.
The suspect did strike another vehicle near the intersection of 48th Avenue/138th Street in Allegan County, according to police, during the pursuit. No one was hurt in that crash, police said.
Holland officers were assisted during the pursuit by Allegan County Sheriff, Ottawa County Sheriff, Michigan State Police and Zeeland Police officers.
