UNDATED (WHTC) – It was a March Magic to forget for Lakeshore high school basketball fans and teams in 2016.
None of the nine Holland/Zeeland area schools participating in the MHSAA boys’ tournament captured a distict title. Three vied for hardware on Friday, with Calvary’s 14-point Class D loss to visiting Tri-unity Christian at the Holland Civic Center, 61-47, the narrowest margin of defeat.
Hudsonville took care of the rest, with the High Eagles disposing of Zeeland East in Class A at Grandville, 48-31, and Unity Christian throttling Holland Christian in Class B at Zeeland West, 62-40. It continues the Lakeshore’s futility in the MHSAA boys’ tournament, with no state titles since Hamilton’s 1984 Class C crown.
In fact, of the 19 varsity teams from the Holland/Zeeland area that competed in the boys and girls state basketball tournament this year, just one – Hamilton’s girls – won a district title, and that was in a Class B district final over Holland Christian.
