ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – Some Consumers Energy customers in Allegan County will be without power overnight, thanks to a critter being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Officials with the Jackson-based utility say that a substation failure around 12:15 on Sunday afternoon cut electricity to about 660 customers in Cheshire and Valley Townships, in the southwest corner of the county. It is believed that an animal made contact with energized equipment, causing the disruption. The affected area is bordered by Crooked Lake, 37th Street, 50th Street and 101st Avenue.
Crews are working to transfer a portion of those affected to other circuits while a mobile substation is being delivered to the site in Cheshire Township. Consumers Energy spokesman Roger Morgenstern, in a statement, said that, “The time needed to deliver equipment and safely transfer all customer electric service to the mobile substation means power is not expected to be restored until 7 AM on Monday.”
