GRAND HAVEN TWP, MI (WHTC) – Two Grand Haven men were pinned in their vehicle after a rollover crash with a semi-truck on U.S. 31 and Lincoln Street in Grand Haven Township Tuesday evening.
Semi-truck driver, Terry Pharr, 54 of Russellville, Alabama was northbound on U.S. 31 pulling a trailer of 40,000 pounds of cargo when Eric Potgeter, 25 of Grand Haven pulled out onto Northbound U.S. 31 and merged into the right-hand lane. He then drove his 2002 Mercury Cougar underneath the semi’s rear striking the last two axels on the semi’s trailer.
According to Sgt. Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, the semi went into ditch with it’s cargo and Potgeter’s vehicle was forced on the east side of the roadway where it rolled over into a ditch, Potgether and his front seat passenger Dustin Hetland, 25, of Grand Haven had to be extricated from the vehicle and were transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital in good condition. Both men were wearing their seatbelts.
Semi-truck driver Phaar was not injured. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
