POLKTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WHTC) – An elderly woman is in critical condition after being rear-ended in a crash in Polkton Township on Saturday.
According to Sgt. Jay Douglas of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department, Angeline Welsh, 91, was the backseat passenger of a Saturn Ion being driven by 55-year-old Larry Dorwin of Muskegon. Christine Dorwin, a 58 year-old also of Muskegon, was riding in the front passenger seat of that same vehicle.
At approximately 4:25 p.m., Dorwin’s vehicle was following behind 54-year-old Coopersville resident James Lenger’s Ford Econoline on Cleveland Street in Polkton Township. Lenger had slowed his vehicle to turn onto 88th Avenue when Dorwin’s vehicle struck the rear of Lenger’s van.
Both Larry and Christine Dorwin were wearing seatbelts during the crash and were unharmed. However, Angeline Welsh (the backseat passenger of the Dowin’s car) was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered critical injuries. She was transported to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital by Life EMS. James Lenger was also wearing a seatbelt and sustained no injuries during the crash.
