HOLLAND (WHTC) — A 4-year-old Holland girl was seriously injured after the car in which she was front-seat passenger collided with a pick up truck, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. David VanderPloeg.
The crash happened just after 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the interseciton of 144th Avenue and New Holland Street in Port Sheldon Township. Drivers on New Holland have stop signs at this corner and drivers on 144th have the right-of-way, VanderPloeg said.
Holland resident Robert Flournoy, 46, caused the crash, VanderPloeg said, by failing to stop his 2000 Ford Expedition while traveling west on New Holland. His vehicle was hit by a 1997 Ford pick-up truck towing a trailer with a sailboat, driven by Hudsonville resident Samuel Hansen, 47.
Flournoy’s passenger, 4-year-old Leyara Potts, was taken by AMR ambulance to Holland Hospital, then transfered to Spectrum Health’s DeVos Childrens Hospital with serious injuries. Flournoy was treated at Holland Hospital for minor injuries; Hansen decline treatment at the scene for what VanderPloeg described as “minor injuries.”
All parties were wearing seatbelts, VanderPloeg said.
