HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Meteorologists from the National Weather Service are calling this heatwave a “heatdome” saying it will feel like being trapped in a car with the windows closed on a sunny day.
Dr. Ulf Herlwimmer who is an allergist in the Holland area says that heatwaves of this kind not only affect allergies, but it affects the heart, lungs and every system in the body, especially the kidneys.
Staying hydrated is key says Herlwimmer. Drink lots of water. “Avoid alcohol if you can and do not do much physicially labor because you will dehydrate very quickly. One of the first signs that you are dehydrated is a dry mouth and sweating.”
Herlwimmer says every hour on the hour drink a glass of water especially if you care going to be working outdoors.
The State of Michigan reminds you to make sure you check on the elderly and your pets too. They need water and a cool environment in the heat just like humans do.
