HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A heatwave is upon us and Consumers Energy is offering tips on how to manage your energy use while staying cool and safe.
Roger Morgenstern of Consumers Energy says one of the things you can do is to not cool unused areas such as a room you’re not using, close the door and close the registers. Blocking the sun is also important. “Keep the sun out, close the blinds. This way your air conditioner and fans don’t have to work so hard.” Morgenstern told WHTC News.
He also says in the heat of the day, avoid using appliances if you can. “Any excuse to not do your laundry is a good one. Make sure your air conditioner is working properly and ceiling fans helps push the air down and moves it around, making the room more comfortable.”
In the event of an outage you can contact Consumers Energy at 1-800-477-5050. Online outage maps are available too. Morgenstern says crews will be ready for anything during this heatwave.
