HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – On the agenda for tonight’s Holland City Council meeting is a vote that will create a clearer set of standards for licensing public lodging businesses.
The proposed emergency ordinance will establish a clearer process to suspend and/or revoke a public lodging business license. High-profile problems at the Wooden Shoe Motel and the Economy Inn in recent years has led many to ask Tulip City leaders to seek action.
Director of Community and Neighborhood Services Joel Dye says it’s been a problem for a while. “Issues that the city has had are with non-chain hotels. It’s not that we are targeting non-chain hotels. it’s just that these are the type of hotels the really require the most city interaction. If you’re running a business where you’re having constant code enforcement or constant police action on your site, it does raise a concern for city staff and the community at large.” Dye told WHTC News.
The council meets at 7 p.m tonight at Holland’s City Hall.
