SPRING LAKE TPW, MI (WHTC) – A 48-year-old Spring Lake man fled the scene of an accident that brought a power pole and power lines down in Spring Lake Township Wednesday evening.
The man whose name is not being released, had left the crash scene at Hickory Street and Spring Lake Road according to witnesses and headed south on Spring Lake Road at around 10:15 p.m. According to Sgt. Kristie Wendt of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, a 2002 Ferrari was eastbound on Hickory Street, failed to stop at the stop sign and went across both lanes of Spring Lake Road. The driver then crashed into the pole on the East side of the intersection.
Sgt. Wendt says the power pole was taken to the ground. It had a guide wire attached to it that brought the power line down across both lanes of Spring Lake Road.
The driver and the passenger were located walking south by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. The driver who was injured but refused treatment was cited for operating while intoxicated and his name is being withheld pending arraignment. The passenger was not injured. The road did remain closed for approximately two-and-a-half hours and the Board of Light and Power did respond to the scene.
Responding agencies were the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, Spring Lake Township Fire and Rescue, North Ottawa County Hospital Ambulance and Board of Light and Power.
