GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – The search is slated to resume on Sunday for a kayaker who apparently fell into the waters of Lake Michigan near Grand Haven on Saturday evening.
According to Ottawa County Central Dispatch, two persons fell out of the vessel in the vicinity of a restaurant on South Harbor Drive, with one being brought to shore. It is believed that it was a man in his mid 20’s that is being sought, as rescuers from Grand Haven Public Safety and the US Coast Guard were sent out around 7 PM.
Conditions on Lake Michigan have been rough throughout much of the weekend, with a beach hazards statement from St. Joseph to Manistee was in effect through 11 PM on Saturday. Forecasters from the Grand Rapids office of the National Weather Service said that north to northwest winds of 15 to 20 miles per hour created waves in the three to six foot range. Such conditions are expected to subside on Sunday.
