GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – This is not a good time to get into Lake Michigan along the Lakeshore.
The National Weather Service office in Grand Rapids has issued a Beach Hazards Statement through midnight tonight for beaches from St. Joseph to Manistee. Northwest winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour will result in three to six foot waves during the daylight hours. Very dangerous currents can be expected on the north side of piers and breakwalls. Beaches at Holland State Park and North Beach in South Haven were particularly spotlighted in an afternoon update. Conditions will also be hazardous for small craft.
Forecasters say that the Independence Day holiday weekend should be much calmer on Lake Michigan.
