SPRING LAKE (WHTC) — Four teens face felony charges after an Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office investigation of thefts from Spring Lake Public Schools.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Mark Bennett said police were after Spring Lake Middle School officials looked into several cases of missing cash. School officials and the school’s resource deputy reviewed security video, which showed four suspects: a 15-year-old Spring Lake Village girl and three Spring Lake Township residents: a 16-year-old girl,16-year-old boy, and a 17-year-old boy.
At least eight times, the four were seen entering the Middle School overnight by way of a rear service door. In all, $1,500 in cash disappeared from Spring Lake Middle School and an iPad was taken from Jeffers Elementary School in Spring Lake Township, Bennett said.
The incidents happened between Dec. 22, 2015, and Jan. 12, Bennett said
Police obtained search warrants and recovered some stolen property, Bennett said, along with items bought using the stolen money.
The teens are not currently in custody and won’t be named until after arraignment, according to police.
