HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Rose Park Baptist Church in Holland will be holding a water cooler drive to raise money for water coolers and the five gallon refillable jugs for the people in need in Flint. They are hoping to reduce plastic waste and refilling the jugs is cheaper than a case of water bottles.
According to David Lockery the church bus driver and brains behind the drive, it’s cheaper in the long run to use a water cooler and refill the plastic jugs then to keep buying bottles of water. There is a problem with recycling them as well Lockery says after a recent visit to Flint. He says people drop off water bottles on people’s porches and they freeze to the concrete or are stolen from the porches.
They are seeking monetary donations so they may purchase the water coolers and plastic refillable jugs. The church has partnered with a church in Flint to help and a youth group from the Holland church will be heading to Flint to deliver the coolers on February 27. Lockery says they will head there to help through the Summer if they have too.
