WASHINGTON (WHTC) – The first of a series of recommendations by Michigan’s Congressional Delegation to the service academies has been announced.
Senator Debbie Stabenow has nominated a total of 45 students statewide for admission consideration by the US Military Academy, the US Naval Academy, the US Air Force Academy and the US Merchant Marine Academy. The only one from the Lakeshore tabbed by the Lansing Democrat was Lydia Kamps of Zeeland, who wants to go to Colorado Springs. Two from Grandville – Luke Ensing and Connor Fischer – were endorsed by Stabenow for West Point.
Academy hopefuls go through what the Senator’s office calls a “highly competitive” application process that includes interviews by community leaders, and nominations are subject to final approval by the academies involved.
Senator Gary Peters (D-Pontiac), along with Representatives Bill Huizenga (R-Zeeland) and Fred Upton (R-St. Joseph), have yet to announce their annual nominations.
