ALLEGAN, MI (WHTC) – A 23-year-old Fillmore Township man will spend between three and 15 years in prison for his role in the death of an 87-year-old South Haven woman this past spring.
Tyler Himes had pleaded guilty to a felony count of driving with a suspended license causing death. He was driving southbound on M-40 on the afternoon of April 18th when the vehicle of a 78-year-old South Haven woman, who was attempting to turn left from the exit ramp of eastbound I-196, pulled in front of his path, causing a collision that apparently couldn’t be avoided.
Himes, the unnamed other driver and passenger Lorraine Bossenga were all taken to Holland Hospital for treatment; Bossenga was later transferred to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, where she succumbed to her injuries. Holland Public Safety officers concluded that Himes was driving with a suspended license and was speeding at the time of the crash.
In addition to his time behind bars, Himes was also ordered to pay restitution and court fees.
