HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A program called “Step it Up” for Ottawa County Seniors is back.
Those who joined this weekly walking effort in county parks strolled a total of more than 106 thousand miles, which equates to circling the globe four times..
The fall’s free seven week walk will be led by a naturalist guide and participants of all fitness levels are welcome.
Ottawa County Park’s Communications Specialist Jessica Van GinHoven says you can participate in one or all of the walks. It was such a success in the Spring that this walk will allow walkers to enjoy the fall colors. She says over 800 people participated.
“We want to keep people outside and active as the weather gets chillier. We are challenging people to walk 225 miles in seven weeks. We’ve got motivators along the way with an interactive map so we can virtually touring the North Country Trail in the Upper Peninsula. Each week you can take a look at the pictures and see where you are virtually walking.” Van GinHoven says.
The first group walk is September 20 at Hemlock Crossing from 6-7 p.m. Parks that have spectacular color have been chosen for the walks. Register online by September 15, 2016. If you’re not tech savvy you can just show up and walk every week and Step it Up!
