GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC) – For the next year or so, you won’t be able to walk the south pier in Grand Haven.
Contractors from Holland-based King Company began on Monday to take apart the catwalk, a process that should last a little more than a week, ahead of a scheduled 2.1 million-dollar repair project of the pier by the US Army Corps of Engineers, slated to start on September 19th. It’s the first major overhaul of the structure in about six decades, and will keep visitors off of the pier through the middle of 2017.
The catwalk will be taken in 50- to 80-foot pieces by barge to a storage site in Ferrysburg for renovation.
