HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Civic Center is the place for book lovers this weekend.
The annual used book sale sponsored by American Association of University Women of Holland sponsors the event. It takes a whole year to prepare and sort the books for the annual sale. Shelden Cleaner’s three locations had book barrels to collect the books this Spring.
Barb Naber and Ruby Kickert are co-chairs of the sale and say they are amazed at the number of new books that are donated for the sale. “About five years ago we started what we call early admittance. On Friday, August 26 you can enter the sale at 3 p.m. with a $20.00 fee. We have 87 tables set up with between 25 and 30,000 books available.” Naber says.
Money from the book sale will go to area non-profits in the area through grants. You can get these grants from any AAUW member or at the book sale this weekend. Some of the non-profits who will benefit from the sale include Hope College’s Children’s After School Program, Evergreen Daycare, Herrick District Library’s Summer Programs, Barnabas Ministries, Women in Transition and more.
Co-chair Ruby Kickert says the sale is being dedicated to Barb Schipper (skipper) who was a longtime chairperson of the sale.
Cash and local checks are accepted. The sale runs 4-9 p.m. Friday, August 26 and 9-12 p.m. Saturday the 27th. From 12:30-4 P.m. Saturday you can bring your own bag and it cost $5.00 to fill it.
The Holland Civic Center is located at 50 West 8th Street in Holland.
