GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – Cooler weather is making way for dangerous conditions along the lakeshore’s beaches.
The National Weather Service in Grand Rapids has issued a Beach Hazard Statement for Ottawa and Allegan Counties till 2 a.m. Wednesday June 29, 2016. Beaches from St. Joseph to Manistee will experience high wave action, strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions. Rip currents are possible too.
High wave action can make swimming difficult and can even tire a strong swimmer. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore the NWS says and often occur at low spots or breaks in sandbars.
