ZEELAND, MI (WHTC) – Two Holland women with the same first name and driving the same name brand of automobile met by accident at Zeeland’s eastern city limits late on Thursday morning.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brian Buter, 70-year-old Mary Clark was driving her Buick westbound on Chicago Drive when she attempted to turn left onto Main Street at the T-intersection there. The problem was that she had a red light at the time and her vehicle collided with another Buick, driven by 52-year-old Mary Crum. Clark was taken to nearby Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital in stable condition, while Crum was not hurt. Dealing with both drivers and investigating the crash led to substantial backups at that busy intersection just west of the Business 196/I-196 junction during the lunch hour.
Buter added that both drivers were buckled up and that Clark was ticketed for failing to stop for a red light.
