HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Two former Detroit Lions are helping Hope College on the gridiron.
Jason Hanson, who retired four seasons ago as the Lions’ all-time leading scorer, came to Ray & Sue Smith Stadium on Tuesday to pass along some tips to the Flying Dutchmen kickers. Hanson’s son Ryan is a junior at Hope College.
Meanwhile, one-time Detroit offensive lineman Tony Semple joined new Head Coach Peter Stuursma’s staff this spring as the offensive line coach; it is his first full-time coaching stint since his eight-year NFL career ended in 2002.
Accompaning the video images from practice is an interview with Hanson about his craft and how it has changed since his playing days; a link to an podcast of an interview with Semple is here.
