HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Four teenagers are in the hospital after their vehicle failed to stop at a red light at the intersection of 28th and Baldwin Street in Georgetown Township.
The 16-year-old-driver from Jenison who was pinned in her vehicle, is in critical condition at Helen Devos Children’s Hospital after her 2006 Dodge Charger was struck in the driver’s side door.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. J. Douglas says the driver was northbound on 28th Avenue around 12:08 a.m. Tuesday, August 16, and failed to stop at the flashing red light at the intersection and proceeded into the path of a Volkswagon Saab driven by Kaitlin Cota, 23, of Grand Rapids.
The collision forced both vehicles off the roadway and into a yard on the northeast side of the intersection.
All teenagers names are being withheld pending notification of family.
The three female occupants of the 16-year-old’s vehicle ages 17-15, were not wearing seatbelts and were transported to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in stable condition.
Cota declined treatment and later sought her own at St Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids.
The intersection of Baldwin and 28th Avenue was closed for about three hours while the accident was investigated. The crash remains under investigation and alcohol was a factor in the crash.
