HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – It may not come as a surprise to cynics, but railroad crossing work done by CSX crews in Holland will not be done on time.
Holland city engineering staff conducted a site visit on Thursday afternoon to work being done on the Hamilton Spur line that crosses 8th Street near Fairbanks Avenue. According to a statement on the city’s website, “CSX is reporting slow progress … paving has been delayed until Monday, August 8th, with the road set to reopen later in the day on Tuesday, August 9th. The schedule is weather-dependent.”
The city had initially said that “work is expected to be complete in one week with a tentative date of August 7, 2016 for the road to be reopened to traffic…this road closure will significantly affect east/west traffic on E 8th Street. Motorists will be required to follow this posted detour.”
Similar railroad crossing work is being done on Waverly Road between 40th and 48th Streets, with no change thus far from the tenative August 8th completion date that was initially mentioned by the city.
