GRAND HAVEN ,MI (WHTC) – The winner of the 2016 Congressional Art Competition will be announced this week in Grand Haven by Zeeland Congressman Bill Huizenga.
The top 10 finalists will be present along with their families and instructors at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum in Grand Haven. Each finalist’s piece of of art can be found on Congressman Huizenga’s Facebook Page.
Eight of the top ten finalists are from Ottawa County Schools. At West Ottawa High School the nominees are Stephanie Mosteller for “Self Portrait.” Cameron Kin Kosanovong under the instruction of Brad Vredevoogd submitted “Self Portrait.” Jesus Torres is in the running for “Colony: Prosperity” and “Safe” is the name of the piece by West Ottawa High School student Samantha Ritamel.
In the Zeeland school district, Zeeland East High School students Taylor Maat has submitted “Ponder.” Rodrigo Zavala Cintora with “Mi Vitgencita.” and at Zeeland West “Contemplation” by Katie Church under the instruction of Michelle Fuller.
The other top ten finalists are Karly Krim from Fremont High School with her piece called “Connection” and Holland Christian High school’s Quinn Boukamp with the piece “I went for breakfast in Little Rock.”
Ludington High School student Ruby Henrickson’s “Static” is also in the top ten.
The public is invited to attend the event at the Tri-Cities Historical Museum at 200 Washington Avenue Monday May 2, in Grand Haven at 4:30 p.m.
