HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A new recreational trail is in the works in Ottawa County.
The Consumers Energy Foundation is awarding $25,000 towards the construction of the Spoonville Trail. The trail will connect to the Henry E. Plant Pathway that’s on the M-231 bridge over the Grand River. Once completed, these non-motorized pathways will join with other popular trails in West Michigan to create a regional “loop” referred to as the “Grand Connection.” The Grand Connection will provide a regional pathway system that connects the Lakeshore to the Grand Rapids area.
Phase 1 of the trail is expected to be completed in September of 2016. This 1.8 mile section of pathway will span north from the M-231 Bridge pathway which will incorporate unique and scenic views of the Grand River to Leonard Road.
Spoonville was once a small village located south of Nunica, in Crockery Township. Anyone who would liek to make a tax deductible contribution to the Spoonville Trail can contact the Planning and Performance Improvement Department at (616) 738-4852 or email at plan@miottwa.org
