HOLLAND (WHTC) — Lakeshore Ethnic Diversity Alliance is looking for volunteers who care about promoting racial equity. The nonprofit needs small-group leaders for the upcoming “Calling All Colors” conferences for middle and high school students, set for May 2 and 3 at Grand Valley State University in Allendale. Each day’s session runs from 8:45 to 10:45 a.m.
Each volunteer will spend two hours leading the group sessions. Materials and pre-conference training will be provided.
Calling All Colors is a year-long school-based program that encourages students to talk about race with the goal of improving relationship among middle and high school students.
“We have a conference in the fall, where we kick off the year and then online curriculums that we share with the students,” said Gail Harrison, LEDA’s founder and executive director. “Then they come back to Grand Valley and report out what they learned and we have another dialogue.”
Volunteers will be asked to attend one training session both at 5:30 to 7 p.m. either tonight (April 21) or April 28 at LEDA’s office in the Macatawa Resource Center, 665 136th Ave., Holland.
To volunteer or get details, contact program director Alfredo Hernandez at program@ethnicdiversity.org or call (616) 846-9074.
LEDA celebrates its 20th anniversary this year.
