HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – An accidental shooting took place yesterday evening in Hudsonville.
Ottawa County Deputies were dispatched to the Presidential Estates Mobile Home Community where they found that a man from Wyoming whose name is being withheld, had accidentally shot himself after visiting a family member at the Estates.
The incident occurred at New Holland Street east of the Estates entry, after the man had taken a walk with his girlfriend in a series of trails while open carrying a handgun.
According to Sgt. Brian Buter of the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, after the walk he was going to dismantle the handgun to make it legal for transport as he didn’t have a CPL. During this process he forgot that the handgun was loaded and accidently shot himself in the leg.
He was then driven back to a family members house int he Estates then transported to Metro Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
