HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – Holland’s Memorial Day Parade will take place in downtown Holland Monday starting at 9:30 a.m.
The parade begins at the intersection of 8th street and College Ave. and will proceed east to Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
The parade features the Holland American Legion band, high school marching bands from Holland schools, Holland Christian and West Ottawa schools, antique vehicles and veterans from World War II,through the present day including active duty military personnel.
The honorary Grand Marshals are George Kuiper and Randy Vande Water. Kuiper was assigned to George Patton’s 4th Armored Division in France, Belgium and Germany. Vande Water served in the U.S. Army in Fort Bliss from 1952 to 1954. Kuiper went on to form Zeeland Industries and Vande Water spent four decades as an editor at the Holland Sentinal.
Following the parade, area citizens are invited to attend a Memorial Day Service at the Civil War Monument in Pilgrim Home Cemetery on the north side of 16th street, east of Fairbanks Ave.
Mayor Kurt Dykstra will greet the crowd while the American Legion Band and soloists provide patriotic music. Military ceremonies and grave decorating will also highlight the ceremony.
WHTC will broadcast the Memorial Day Ceremony at 11 a.m.
