HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – With the smell of tulips in the air and a balmy temperature of 81 degrees at Centennial Park Thursday night, it seemed like the perfect conditions for Holland area Dutch Dancers to break the world record of most people dancing at one time in wooden shoes.
Bethany Christian Services and Tulip Time teamed up to organize Klomp The Record, where people of all ages band together to try to take the record away from Pella, Iowa, who also has a Dutch festival similar to Tulip Time.
The number of people to beat is 2,604 and unfortunately, Holland-area Dutch Dancers were a few hundred shy of taking the record. The actual number has not been released yet, but volunteers say the number is close to 1,600 people. Festival organizers hope to try to break the record again at next year’s Tulip Time.
