UNDATED (WHTC) – The road funding reform Proposal 1 goes before voters across Michigan today, while some Lakeshore communities have local matters to decide at the ballot box.
The annual 18-mill non-homestead property tax renewal is before electors in the Fennville, Grand Haven, Hopkins, Hudsonville and West Ottawa school districts, while Port Sheldon Township has a one-tenth mill library operations renewal question. Dorr Township is seeking a half-mill increase for fire equipment replacement and three mills for roads. Martin Township wants nine-tenths of a mill for roads, while Salem Township is seeking five mills for that. Local leaders have expressed concerns that the apparent anti-Prop 1 sentiment statewide before the election could spill over into voters rejecting all ballot proposals out of hand.
Allegan County Board members will also be observing how Clerk Joyce Watts’ office handles returns after issues of delayed results occurred in last year’s primary and general elections.
