GRAND RAPIDS, MI (WHTC) – It’s s sight to see. Members of West Michigan’s Media manning the bases as area Priests from the Catholic Diocese of Grand Rapids give them a run for their money.
Let’s Go To Bat for Kids is a longtime community event where area Priests known as the “Padres”, challenge Radio and Television personalities known as the “Media Giants” in a game of softball. The Padres includes priests, seminarians and deacons from parishes throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids. Proceeds from the evening go to Catholic Charities of West Michigan.
Last year Catholic Charities of West Michigan found 85 children loving homes through adoption while more than 320 children found safe, nuturing homes through foster care programs according to Bethany Stowe, Events Manager for CCWM.
Representing WHTC and the Lakeshore’s 9.27 The Van are Mary Ellen Murphy and Brent Alan. Team Captain Todd Chance from Fox 17 will manage the media giants who include personalities from local radio and tv stations.
The free event is Thursday June 21, gates open at 5:30 p.m. at Fifth Thrd Ballpark in Comstock Park. Opening ceremonies start at 6:30 p.m.
There are plenty of activities too like facepainting, balloon artists, crafts and of course Crash, the mascot of the Whitecaps baseball.
