HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – A Thursday meeting at Park Township Hall discussed the interest in creating a water trail in the Lake Macatawa Watershed.
Presentations at the meeting detailed on how water trails could bring tourism, how to maximize its use, and how to make the trail accessible for all ages and abilities.
Park and Holland townships and Ottawa County are working under a Great Lakes Trail Towns Planning Initiative grant to have local municipalities make a series of connecting water trails along the Lake Michigan coastline. The proposed trails should create a series of “Trail Towns,” featuring amenities such as restrooms and picnic tables at the start of each water trail.
If created, organizers hope that the new water trails would provide a unique view of the area’s community identity.
