HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – The Holland High School Band will soon be playing to the beat of a different drum.
Demetrius White was recently announced as the new Director of Bands for the Holland High School Band Program.
The Lansing native graduated from Everett High School before receiving a degree in Music Education from Michigan State University. During his time at MSU, White was a member of multiple music groups, including the Spartan Marching Band, concert ensemble, percussion ensemble, jazz combos, and even a salsa band.
After college, White taught at Clearview Elementary School in Waukegan, IL, where he worked as the Elementary General Music Teacher. He also taught as the band director and performing arts teacher at Detroit Edison Public School Academy.
White was recently accepted into the North Carolina Central University Masters of Music program, where he studied jazz and improvisation under Professor Thomas Taylor and Jon Metzger.
White will be moving back to Michigan with his wife Jennifer, and their dog Pearl.
