LANSING, MI (WHTC) – It may have come six months late, but an economic tool for the Holland area can now be utilized.
Governor Rick Snyder signed a bill on Wednesday that will bring economic growth to municipalities across Michigan. City “SmartZones” collaborate with entrepreneurs and early-stage research companies to bring sustainable jobs to the state. Last year, Senator Mark Jansen and former Representative Joe Havemen introduced legislation to give Holland a chance at establishing a satellite SmartZone. The bill did not pass during December’s lame duck session, but Representative Daniela Garcia was determined to bring it back. The bill from the freshman Republican from Holland’s North Side also introduced two new changes to the SmartZone applications featuring competitive language and two new timeframes to apply.
