JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC) – Four young adults, ranging in age between 17 and 22, were hospitalized following a single-vehicle crash just west of the Ottawa-Kent county line on Monday afternoon. A resident phoned Central Dispatch after hearing the sound of Zachary Jansheski’s westbound van crashing off of Riley Street between Kenowa and 8th avenues in Jamestown Township. It wasn’t immediately determined what led Jansheski to lose control, veer to the right and smash into several trees. An unbuckled Zachary Fannon flew from the back seat into the windshield due to the force of the collision. The two 18-year-old men from Hudsonville, along with two women passengers from Grand Rapids, 17-year-old Emily Van Valkenberg and 22-year-old Martha Kuiper, had to be extricated by rescue crews.
An unconscious Fannon was flown to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in critical condition, while Van Valkenberg and Kuiper also went to that Grand Rapids medical facility, and they, along with Jansheski, who was transported to St. Mary’s, were initially listed in serious condition. The crash remains under investigation.
