(Holland, Mi) – Brand Manager Dan Spadafora announced today the hiring of long-time area broadcaster Mary Ellen Murphy as morning news anchor for 1450 WHTC.
Murphy brings over 30 years of broadcasting experience to the station. Her career has included stops in Grand Rapids and Muskegon doing news and on air work.
Murphy has also worked in Seattle, Sacramento and Detroit.
Spadafora cited his “youthful inexperience” and a genuine dislike of getting up in the middle of the night to go to work as among the reasons to bring in a seasoned broadcaster to round out WHTC’s Morning News. Spadafora added he hopes the hire of Murphy means he will be able to call in sick more often so he can keep sleeping.
The “boy” has attempted to host mornings on WHTC since January 2014.
Murphy plans to pay lip service to Spadafora while secretly working to push him out and take sole control of the program.
News Director Gary Stevens will move to afternoon news and host the WHTC Daily Recap, a poorly named and executed program that is in need of direction and focus.
Market Manager Kevin Oswald was taking a long lunch and was unavailable for comment…
…But seriously…
MARY ELLEN MURPHY TO ANCHOR NEWS AND CO-HOST ON 1450 WHTC
(Holland, Mi) – Mary Ellen Murphy really is coming to 1450 WHTC.
Brand Manager Dan Spadafora announced today the hiring of the long-time area broadcaster as morning news anchor for 1450 WHTC. Murphy brings over 30 years of broadcasting experience to the station.
Her career has included stops in Grand Rapids and Muskegon doing news and on air work.
Murphy has also worked in Seattle, Sacramento and Detroit.
“She’s an absolute pro,” Spadafora said. “Mary Ellen has experience and passion that is going to push WHTC to a place it has never been to before. I’m still a little shocked no one grabbed her before we did, but I’m glad she landed in Holland. I think listeners are going to find a true personal connection listening to Mary Ellen every morning.”
For Murphy, it’s all about connecting with listeners.
“I’m happy to be back in the airwaves and at such a staple in Holland,” Murphy said. “It’s no secret I love the beach and the shoes too. It’s a perfect fit once I get my wooden shoes. Being in the radio has never been about me…it’s about you the listener and I look forward to making that connection on and off the air.”
News Director Gary Stevens will move to afternoons and will also host the WHTC Daily Recap which airs at 5:00 pm.
