HOLLAND, MI (WHTC) – An unnamed 64-year-old Holland man escaped serious injury when his single-engine plane flipped after landing at West Michigan Regional Airport on Saturday afternoon.
First responders were called to the South Washington Avenue facility around 1:40 PM on a report that a Cessna 172-K was on its top in the snow alongside the main runway. The pilot was able to get out of the craft and had only minor injuries. He told investigators that, after the plane made a successful landing, strong winds pushed it off of the runway and caused it to flip over. The craft didn’t catch fire, and there was no significant damage reported.
The airport reopened about two hours after the incident. Federal Aviation Administration agents are expected to investigate the incident.
